First Experiences of China
As you can see, our group of hardy adventurers has safely arrived in Shanghai, China; this is a picture of the students posing in front of the entrance to the Mag-Lev Train, the world's first magnetic levitation train, which floats on a cloud of magnetism rather than touching the tracks and reaches speeds in excess of 400 kilometers per hour.
I apologize for the delay in updating this blog, but we have had been having some firsthand experience with the limitations of Chinese civil liberties; apparently, the Chinese government is blocking the major blog websites due to recent criticism of the government posted on these sites by dissident groups. We knew that this might be an issue, and had tested the system in advance with our counterparts at EFZ, however the blocking has apparently intensified due to the annual National People's Congress in Beijing and government fears about dissident criticism of the proceedings there. This has created some difficulties on our end, however we think we have a system worked out that will allow us to circumvent the barrier (although we will not be able to read our own blog!). If you are reading this post then the system is working. Stay tuned for further posts; once we confirm that our solution is effective, we will fully update the blog.
