Journal Excerpt: Carolyn Horner
The highlight of Day 2 had to be the Info Space building in which the future technology of the world was on display. The place defines what people think of when asked about modern China in 2008. An elevator leads you up into this huge millennium ball where we were met by our tour guide. He took us to the first floor which was based on a new wave of security which included a computer put on the front door of a house which would let visitors essentially sign into the house. It would also take a picture of your guest while giving times you would be back home. The second floor had a whole bunch of robots including a robot pet which could do chores, take pictures, write assignment lists, etc. The next floor had a machine that would take a picture of your face and then virtually dress you and you could then send your picture of your new outfit to a friend for their opinion. These are just some of the many different variety of computers or devices at Info Space, but for anyone coming to Shanghai, this is a MUST SEE on your agenda.
[Editor's Note: The picture depicts Carolyn and other members of our group enjoying a demonstration of China's cutting-edge surveillance and security technology.]
